Spicy Turmeric Cereal Mix (Chivda)

Spicy, crunchy, and an addictive savory snack. This mix is my take on the Indian snack “chivda”; for my girls, who cannot enjoy the chivdas from the Indian grocery store. The girls enjoy this when they come from school or when they are watching tv.

I normally “triple” “triple” up my batches so they last longer. In fact I use a  box of each cereal . Making  big batches of this mix avoids the family from reaching for the chips and other junky savories.

2 cups of mixed of unflavored cereals ( I used Cheerios, Corn flakes, and Rice Krispies.  You can add pops for light sugar cereal)

1/2 cup dry unsweetened coconut flakes

1/2 cup nuts and seeds (optional)

1/4 cup coconut oil

1 tsp of turmeric

1/2  tsp of red chili powder

salt to taste

1/2 tsp of sugar

1/2 cup raisins ( you can add your roasted nuts and seeds )

1/2 cup potato sticks

1 In a mixing bowl add all the cereals, coconut flakes, and nuts. Keep aside.

2 In a bowl add in the oil, turmeric, red chili powder and stir till well blended.

2 Pour the oil mixture into the cereal mix and toss till well coated.

3 Bake at 350F for 7 mins stirring after 4 mins .

4 Remove from the oven. Sprinkle the sugar and add the raisins and potato sticks. Cool and enjoy!
